2010 14A National Championship - Moline, Illinois (Aug 1st thru
Aug 8th)
The 2010 14A National
Championship tournament was held in Moline, Illinois with 156 teams from
around the country. Oregon Thunder finished tied for 65th, losing
their first game to the American Liberty Softball Krusers 5-0.
Thunder then won their next 2 bracket games, defeating the Georgia
Impact Black team 3-1 and the South Bay Stars 4-1 before losing to the
Vienna Starz 0-3. Oregon Thunder finished 2-2 in bracket play.
2010 14A Region 15 Championship (July 16th
thru July 18th)
The 2010 14A Region 15 Championship tournament was
held at Delta Park in Portland, Oregon with 21 teams from WA and OR.
Oregon Thunder had a one inning let down in their opening game against
the Washington Hustle, losing 4‐11 to knock them down into the loser’s
bracket Friday morning. Thunder responded to the opening round thrashing
on Saturday going on a 5 game winning streak to ensure playing on
Sunday. They started by beating the Sudden Impact team from Seattle 8‐0,
followed by a 15‐3 win over the NW Classic, a 5‐1 win over Thunder –
Brown, a 5‐0 victory over the Washington Vipers, and closing the late
evening with a 10‐2 victory over the Riptide ’95 team. Back on the field
first thing Sunday morning, Thunder came from behind to beat the Sandy
Thunder 4‐3 to setup a rematch with the Washington Hustle team. Thunder
held a 3‐1 lead after 4 innings, but the Hustle pulled ahead and held on
to win 4‐3 to send the Oregon Thunder home after 7 straight games in the
loser’s bracket. Congratulations Thunder for taking 4th Place after losing their
first game! Final Score: Oregon Thunder 3, Washington Hustle 4.
2010 14A NSA Western World
Series (July 12th
thru July 14th)
The 2010 14A NSA Western World Series tournament was
held at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon as a week day tournament
with 19 teams from WA, OR, and CA. Oregon Thunder came out strong
winning their two games convincingly over the SBA MsStyx from Washington
State 7‐2 and the Mizuno All America team from California 7‐2. In
bracket play, Thunder defeated the Oregon Wolves 4‐1, the Spokane Crash
3‐2, the SnoCo Express Black 3‐1 and the Vancouver Attack 4‐2 to reach
the championship game. In the championship game, Thunder defeated the
SnoCo Express Black team for the 2 nd
time in the tournament
retaining an undefeated record to win the 2010 NSA Western World Series
Championship. Congratulations Thunder! Final Score: Oregon Thunder 4,
SnoCo Express Black 2.
2010 14A Oregon State
Championship (July 10th
thru July 11th)
The 2010 14A State tournament was held at Wallace
Marine Park in Salem, Oregon. Oregon Thunder jumped out in the winner’s
bracket with two early wins by defeating the Oregon Magic 6‐0 and the
Salem/Dalles Scorpions 6‐4. The first game Sunday morning, Thunder ran
into a hot hitting Sandy Thunder team, losing 9‐11. In the loser’s
bracket, Thunder defeated the Sherwood Fireballs 5‐1, Thunder‐Brown 5‐0,
and then avenged the earlier loss to the Sandy Thunder by winning 12‐1
to make it to the championship game against Blaze ’95. The championship
game was a pitcher’s duel as Thunder eventually lost a nail biter 0‐1 to
the Blaze ’95 team, thus finishing in 2 nd
place for the
tournament. Congratulations Thunder! Final Score: Oregon Thunder 0,
Blaze ’95 1.
2010 14A Colorado Fireworks, Broomfield, Colorado (June
29th thru July 4th )
Oregon Thunder completed an
amazing week in Broomfield, Colorado by playing 16 games in 6 days,
culminated with 5 straight wins in the loser bracket on championship
Sunday to win the 2010 14A Colorado
Fireworks championship!
This year, the Colorado Fireworks had 67
team accepted into the tournament represented by teams from 19 states,
Australia, and Canada.
Thunder beat the Oklahoma Explosion 11 to 0
and the Texas Kaos ’96 7 to 5 in practice games on Tuesday.
Pool play started Wednesday
and the Thunder started strong with a 6-0 victory over the Texas LITE
and a 5-1 victory over the New Mexico Sol ’95. Thunder completed pool
play on Thursday with a 2nd
victory over the New Mexico Sol ’95 (6-0) and a hard fought 0-0 tie with
the Oklahoma Twisters to finish at 3-0-1 in pool play, taking the top
seed.
Thunder opened bracket play Friday morning
with a 6-0 victory over the Texas Glory (Atkins) and then won a
thrilling and an emotional
5-4 extra inning game against the Texas
Kaos ’96 to advance to Saturday.
Saturday morning, Thunder played a tough
Oklahoma Starz team coming out on top 2-0.
In the afternoon, Thunder
came from behind to beat the Scottsdale Fever ’95 team 3-2 to win their
4th straight
bracket game.
Saturday evening, the winning streak ended
as Thunder came up against an extremely tough Georgia Impact Gold team,
eventually losing 0-4.
Thunder entered loser bracket play early
Sunday morning and under gray skies, held on to beat the Pearland
Phantomz 2-1 and then scored early to hold the Birmingham Thunderbolts
off with a 3-1 victory to setup a rematch with the Georgia Impact Gold
team which had lost earlier to the Texas Outlaws.
Thunder jumped on the Georgia Impact
pitching early and kept on the pressure to win going away with a 9-2
victory to get to the Championship game against the Texas Outlaws.
In the championship game, Thunder rolled to
a 12-1 victory in 5 innings to setup the Championship “IF” game.
The final game was a
pitcher’s duel, with no score going into the 6th
inning.
The Outlaws scored one run
in the top of the 6th,
but Thunder finally caught up the Outlaw pitcher and broke out for 5
runs before a thunder and lightning storm suspended play for over an
hour.
Finally, Thunder completed
the 7th inning,
holding the Outlaw team to win the 2010 Fireworks Championship.

14A National Qualifier, Billings, Montana (June 25th
and 26th
Oregon Thunder traveled to Billings, Montana for the 14A National
Qualifier. Only 4 teams made the
trip, but we had great games and competition.
During Friday round robin session, Thunder jumped on the Billings
Fury team for a 9-0 victory and followed up with a hard fought 2-1
victory over the Washington Hustle.
Early Saturday morning in Championship play, Thunder lost their
opening game to Washington Hustle 1-5 where the only highlight was a 10
minute delay for the girls to all chase 2 cottontail rabbits off the
field. In the loser bracket,
Thunder came back sharp with a strong hitting performance to blast the
Billings Fury team 11-0 in five innings to setup a re-match with the
Washington Hustle who had lost earlier to the Sherwood Fireballs.
In the re-match, Thunder played near perfect ball to outlast the
Hustle 2-0 to secure a berth to Nationals.
In the Championship game, Thunder came out strong against the
Sherwood Fireballs team, but couldn’t hold on as Sherwood came from
behind to win 5-3.
Congratulations Thunder on securing berth to 14A Nationals in Moline,
Illinois! Final Score:

Valley Invite College Exposure Tournament (June 19th
and 20th )
Oregon Thunder was placed into
Division III which consisted of 14 U16A teams and 10 U14A teams.
Thunder lost their first round pool game to
the Northwest Wildcats 3-7, but rallied to win their remaining two pool
games to finish second in their pool.
Game #2 was a 2-0 shutout over the CC
Invasion.
Game #3 was an 8-0 victory over the
Southern Oregon Intensity.
Thunder started strong in championship play
with an 11-2 victory over the Idaho Diamond Bandits and a 4-2 victory
over the Frasier Valley Fusion team from Canada.
In the Quarter finals, Thunder won a hard
fought battle with cross town rival Blaze’95 2-0 and in the semi-finals
Thunder prevailed during a 1 hour rain delay to beat the Roseburg
Indians 3-1.
The championship game against the Oregon
Elite, went into 8 inning tie-breaker.
With a modified
tie-breaker rule (runners on 2nd
and 3rd
base), Thunder played great defense to hold Elite to 1 run in their half
of the tie-breaker and then Thunder scored two runs in their half with
back to back hits to win the Valley Invite Division III Gold Bracket
Championship.

Panthers 16A Invite (June 12th and 13th)
Oregon Thunder opened the
tournament pool play with a tough 3-4 loss to the 16A Oregon Magic, but
quickly responded to win their next two pool games: 9-1 over the 16A
Hi-Voltage and 15-5 over the NC Storm.
In championship bracket play, Thunder came
out swinging with a 12-0, 4-inning victory over the Elmira Crushers
followed by a come from behind 4-2 victory over the 16A Northwest
Bullets to get into the championship game.
In the championship, Thunder fell behind
early 5-0 before rallying to tie the game in the 5th inning
5-5 against the always tough 14A Blaze ’95 team.
Thunder fell short in the end, losing to
finish in 2nd Place.

VGSA U14A Memorial Day Invite (May 8th
and 31st)
Oregon Thunder swept the table
at the Vancouver 14A Memorial Weekend tournament, winning all eight
games to take the championship.
Thunder had pool victories over the Attack
(6-0), Something Special (13-1), Washington Hurricanes (6-1), and the
Sherwood Fireballs (3-2). In championship bracket play, Thunder started
by beating organizational rival Thunder-Brown (7-3) and the Northwest
Wildfire (8-0).
In the semifinals the Sandy Thunder
provided a difficult match, but Oregon Thunder prevailed (3-2) and in
the championship, Thunder completed a shutout over the Attack.

Sherwood U14A Invite (May 8th
and 9th)
Oregon Thunder completed their
3rd straight tournament as champions,
winning the Sherwood U14A Invite tournament over Mother’s Day weekend.
Thunder cruised to pool play victories over the Sherwood Fireballs
(Hext) and Oregon Wolves on Saturday. In Sunday’s first round bracket
game Thunder was tested by the Blaze ’96 team, which played very good
defensive. Final Score: Thunder 5, Blaze ’96 1. In the semi-finals
Thunder faced the always tough Blaze ’95 team which turned into a hard
fought game going down to the last inning. Courtney Huston struck out
the last 3 batters to end the game after loading the bases. Final
Result: Thunder 5, Blaze 95’ 3. In the championship game, Mackenzie
Spencer went the distance to help Thunder seal the championship against
the Vancouver Vipers. The Vipers played superb defense and kept the game
close through 7 innings. Congratulations Thunder! Final Score: Thunder
2, Vipers 1.
VGSA U14 Open Invite (May 1st
and 2nd)
Oregon Thunder’s 2nd
tournament of the
year started under cloudy skies in Vancouver, WA against the Tsunamis
from Longview, WA. Mackenzie Spencer pitched a no-hitter giving up only
1 walk in a 5 inning 8-0 shut-out in the first game of the tournament.
Final Score: Thunder 8, Tsunamis 0. The Vancouver Vipers presented a
difficult 2nd game of the tournament
holding the Thunder bats to one run thru four innings, but a 5 run 5th
inning was enough to
support another no hit pitching performance, this time by Kaylin
VanDomelen. Final Score: Thunder 6, Vipers 1. The third game of the
tournament setup a rematch with the Attack. Thunder hit the ball hard
throughout the game, but the Attack defense held the score close until
the sixth inning when Thunder broke open the game, scoring 5 runs. Final
Score: Thunder 7, Attack 1. The Thunder faced the Riptide, from Reynolds
for the fourth game of the day. The entire team hit the ball hard and to
the gaps the entire game, highlighted with a massive home run over the
center field fence by Mackenzie Farnham. Mackenzie Spencer went the
distance, giving up only 2 runs to a very good hitting Reynolds team.
Final Score: Thunder 11, Riptide 2. The Gold Bracket semi-finals again
another re-match with the tough Attack team who had beaten the Sudden
Impact team from Federal Way earlier in the morning. Mackenzie Spencer
pitched a masterful seven inning performance and timely hitting helped
lead the Thunder to a shutout victory. Final Score: Thunder 4, Attack 0.
The championship game was what championship games should be – a tough
back and forth battle, settled in the last inning. The Riptide earned
the title game rematch by beating the Idaho Golden Gloves earlier and
they quickly put behind them the loss on Saturday night. Kaylin
VanDomelen earned a complete game victory and Thunder sealed the
championship with timely hitting and base running! Congratulations
Thunder! Final Score: Thunder 5, Riptide 4.
Beaverton U14 Open Invite (April 17th
and 18th)
Oregon Thunder started out the 2010 season with a 6-0
record, claiming the Beaverton Invite championship. Thunder opened pool
play by defeating the Tigard Blast 15-0 and the NW Classic 9-0 before
running into a strong Vancouver Attack team. Behind a five inning outing
from Mackenzie Spencer, 2 inning relief/save from Courtney Huston, and
timely team hitting with a 3 run 4th inning led by a triple by Courtney
Clayton, a single by Courtney Huston, a Fielder’s choice and a 2 RBI
double by Mackenzie Farnham, Thunder pulled off a 3-0 victory to go
undefeated in pool play. In championship play, Thunder started strong
with a 8-1 victory over the Vipers and continued with the hot bats in
defeating the Thunder ’96 team 9-1 to reach the championship game with
the always strong Blaze ’95 team. Thunder held a 2-1 lead after the
first inning as Courtney Clayton singled with one out and Courtney
Huston doubled her around. Mackenzie Farnham’s RBI single completed the
first inning scoring for the Thunder. Both teams had strong pitching as
the score held entering the bottom of the 5th. Maria Dendinger doubled
in 2 runs with bases loaded to give Thunder a 4-1 lead and Mackenzie
Spencer continued her masterful complete game outing to notch her 4
victory of the weekend as Thunder took the Blaze Invite Championship.
